What new pro-grade sports tracking features does Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 bring?

Among all the new devices Samsung launched this week, the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 might be the most impressive in terms of upgrades. It has a brighter screen, a faster processor, and a larger battery than its predecessor.

But since this is Samsung's Ultra smartwatch, let us focus on its pro-grade sports-tracking features.

Trail Run, Sweat Loss estimation, and more accurate GPS

New health and fitness features on the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 include Trail Run, Sweat Loss estimation, professional dive-tracking metrics, and highly accurate GPS tracking.

Its dedicated outdoor activity tracking modes can record more detailed metrics. For example, Trail Run tracks elevation, climbing progress, and terrain impact. This can help you pace yourself and reduce the risk of injury.

With its new Nutrition Alert and enhanced Sweat Loss feature, you can estimate how much sweat you have lost relative to your body weight and receive real-time hydration guidance.

The Sweat Loss feature is available on the Galaxy Watch Ultra as well, but its information was displayed only after a walk or run has ended. On the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, the information is displayed continuously and provides guidance on when and how much to hydrate.

It doubles up as a diving computer

The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 can also serve as a dedicated dive computer. Through Samsung's collaboration with leading diving gear maker Mares, the new flagship smartwatch can automatically record dives and provide critical information, including depth, dive time, and water temperature.

An upcoming app called Diving will also enable the watch to track ascent and descent speeds and provide safe dive limits.

Samsung is also debuting new fitness-tracking features, including Daily Cardio Load, Fitness Index, and Vitals.

  • Daily Cardio Load provides tailored guidance on workout volume and estimated recovery needs.
  • Fitness Index offers a broad view of your current physical fitness and personalized goals to help improve it.
  • The Vitals feature monitors your health baselines overnight and alerts you to significant deviations.

The company is also offering a 60-day Strava trial and a two-month iFIT trial with the Watch Ultra 2.
